Rental car companies see spike in one-way rentals

(CNN, KYMA) - Rental car companies are seeing a spike in one-way rentals.

It comes amid the widespread flight cancellations at major U.S. airports, which is the FAA's effort to try to counter the effect of air traffic controller staffing shortages due to the government shutdown.

The flight cuts have led to thousands of delays and cancellations across the country.

Rental car company Hertz has reported a 20% rise in one-way rentals as travelers are renting vehicles as a back-up plan to help reach their destinations.
