Powerful nor’easter storm causes trees to be downed in the Hamptons

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. (CBS, KYMA) - Trees were downed in the Hamptons area of Long Island, New York overnight into Monday morning as a powerful nor'easter storm hammered the wider region, bringing high winds, rain and coastal flooding.

Video captured shows a large tree blocking a residential road after being felled by strong winds in the Springs area of East Hampton.

The storm was expected to continue through Monday afternoon, state officials warned.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul declared a State of Emergency for New York City, Long Island, and Westchester County as the storm was impacting the region Sunday.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy also declared a state of emergency Saturday, ahead of the storm's arrival.
