Office building rattled as strong earthquake hits the Philippines
(CBS, KYMA) - Footage recorded inside a high-rise office building in Davao City gave a dramatic demonstration of the power of a 7.4-magnitude earthquake that struck in the Philippines Friday morning.
Footage from Francis Magbanua shows the situation for office workers in Pryce Tower, with cabinets overturned and poles seen swaying outside the window.
"Just went down from the 14th floor of Pryce Tower after being shaken by a strong quake. When the steel cabinets began to fall, I immediately rushed to the exit and went down the stairs to safety," he wrote in a post on X.
The shallow earthquake struck just after 9:40 a.m. Philippine Standard Time and shocks were felt in multiple provinces as the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) advised the immediate evacuation of several coastal communities on the country’s east.
The quake was first reported as a magnitude-7.6 quake by PHIVOLCS, before it was revised down to magnitude-7.5. United States Geological Survey (USGS) measured the tremor as magnitude-7.4.
