Suspect identified in 1991 Yogurt Shop Murders in Texas

AUSTIN, Texas (NBC, KYMA) - After 34 years, a break in Austin's most infamous cold case led to the identification of the suspect believed to be linked to the 1991 Yogurt Shop Murders.

Police identified the suspect as Robert Eugene Brashers through DNA and ballistics testing.

He is connected with several other violent crimes across the Southeast U.S., and died by suicide in a 1999 standoff with police.

The Austin community was rocked by the murders of 17-year-old Jennifer Harbison, her sister, 15-year-old Sarah, 17-year-old Eliza Thomas and 13-year-old Amy Ayers at the "I Can't Believe It's Yogurt" shop.

Much of the evidence at the crime scene was destroyed when the perpetrators set it on fire.

Police say the case remains open and a news conference is scheduled for Monday to provide more details.
