CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Huge waves hit Hong Kong’s shoreline

(CBS, KYMA) - Hong Kong's weather service raised its storm warning to its highest level as Typhoon Ragasa barreled towards mainland China Wednesday.

Footage posted by Instagram/Threads user @wkmik shows huge waves lashing Hong Kong's shoreline, near Xinghua Village, early Wednesday morning.

According to Hong Kong Observatory, winds with average speeds of 118 km/h or more were expected to batter the region.

"At 11 am, Super Typhoon Ragasa was centered about 150 km southwest of Hong Kong," the observatory said. "And is forecast to move west or west-northwest at about 22 km/h edging closer to the vicinity of the western coast of Guangdong."

Authorities urged locals to remain indoors and avoid low lying areas.
