MINNEAPOLIS (NBC, KYMA) - At least eight people were injured in a shooting at a homeless encampment in Minneapolis Monday night.

Officials arrived on scene shortly after 10:00 p.m. Central to respond to multiple reports of shots fired in the area of East Lake Street.

They say an off-duty officer working at the target store nearby was approached by people running into the target reporting gunfire.

The officer exited the store and heard gunfire coming from the homeless encampment nearby

Officers found several people with gunshot wounds.

They are unsure what the circumstances are surrounding the shooting.

So far, there have been no arrests.

According to police, the encampment was set up by Minneapolis landlord Hamoudi Sabri on a parking lot behind a vacant building he owns on East Lake Street.

Sabri has been in a fight with the city to keep the encampment open for months.

Authorities say that after the scene is processed, the encampment will be cleared.
