LSU honors Charlie Kirk with pre-game tribute
BATON ROUGE, La. (CBS, KYMA) - The Louisiana State University (LSU) Tigers paid tribute to Charlie Kirk ahead of their game against the Florida Gators Saturday as spectators were asked to pause for a moment of reflection.
Footage from sports reporter Preston Guy shows crowds cheering at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge as the tribute was delivered over the stadium's PA system.
Governor Jeff Landry commended the move in a Facebook post saying, "Incredible moment before the LSU v. Florida game honoring Charlie Kirk. Thank you to all the fans for honoring Charlie. We will ensure his legacy lives on forever."
A day earlier, the LSU branch of Turning Point USA, the college-based right-wing organization founded by Kirk, held a vigil for Kirk on the LSU campus, where Governor Landry and Speaker Mike Johnson delivered speeches.
In a post on X, Johnson said it had been an "honor" to speak at the vigil and said "seeing so many students gathered was a touching tribute and a hopeful reminder that Charlie's legacy will endure."
