Severe thunderstorms force people to take shelter at New York State Fair

(NBC, KYMA/KECY) - Severe thunderstorms forced people to take shelter at the New York State Fair Sunday.

The strong winds and heavy rains forced the state fair organizers to close the gates for two hours.

People already inside were asked to seek shelter. The storm collapsed a jumbotron at the State Police Exhibit.

Some tents were also destroyed and heavy rain caused flooding at the fairground's west end.
