Engineers in Sweden move church to be relocated
(CBS, KYMA/KECY) - It's said that faith can move mountains, but in a small town in Sweden, it's helping engineers transport a massive church.
Thousands have come from neighboring countries to watch the 100-year-old wooden church make its way down the road piece by piece.
It's a slow three mile trek to clear space for the expansion of Europe's biggest underground mine.
At 131 feet wide and weighing over 740 tons, it's no easy lift. Engineers had to widen the road by 50 feet just to fit the church through.
Sweden's national broadcaster is livestreaming the event, dubbing it "The Great Church Walk."
It will take two full days to make the move, with a pause built in each afternoon for Fika, which is Sweden's traditional coffee break.
