Crews in Milwaukee use boat to rescue stranded residents

MILWAUKEE (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - More than a foot of rain fell on southeastern Wisconsin overnight into Sunday, causing widespread flash flooding in the Milwaukee area.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), between 7.5 and 13 inches of rain had fallen since Saturday night over the Milwaukee area as of 10:54 a.m. Central, with additional amounts up to two-inches possible into Sunday evening.

NWS said "numerous" roads remained closed due to the flooding and encouraged drivers to "expect many areas of moving or standing water."

Footage taken by Jenny San Filippo shows crews rescuing stranded people near the Menomonee River Parkway in Milwaukee County Sunday morning.

"Boat rescue on the Menomonee River Parkway Wauwatosa/Milwaukee border," she wrote in a post on X.
