At least two dead in house fire in Maryland

CHARLES COUNTY, Md. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - A tragic two-alarm house fire has claimed the lives of at least two people in southern Maryland.

The fire started just after 8:30 a.m. Eastern Sunday in a neighborhood in Waldorf, Maryland in Charles County.

The Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department and several surrounding departments responded to reports of a dwelling fire with people possibly trapped inside.

Investigators say they're searching for additional victims.

It's unclear exactly what started the fire, and there is no word on the ages or names of the victims.

An investigation is underway.
