(NBC, KYMA/KECY) - The DeKalb County Police Department is mourning the loss of fallen officer David Rose.

The 33-year-old officer was fatally shot while responding to an active shooter near the campuses of both the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Emory University Friday afternoon.

Officer Rose joined the DeKalb Police Academy in September 2024 and graduated in March of this year.

The department said he served with "courage, integrity, and unwavering dedication."
