Children’s hospital in Texas welcomes two facility dogs

HOUSTON (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - A children's hospital in Houston announced a new pair of four-legged staff members joining its ranks to help children battling illnesses.

Footage sent to Storyful on August 5 shows two golden retrievers, named Stephan and Boris, who will be paired with new handlers on the Children's Memorial Hermann Child Life team.

Stephan and Boris are joined by three existing "four-legged coworkers," Dexter, Pilot, and Declan, "and are fitting right in," the hospital said in a press release.

The two new dogs "will work directly with patients in the pediatric heart center, oncology unit, and outpatient clinics," according to Children's Memorial Hermann. "Their many skills include demonstrating procedures, medical play, helping with physical therapy, and easing anxiety during what can be a scary time for many young patients."
