Tuesday marks National Oyster Day

(CNN, KYMA/KECY) - Tuesday is a day seafood lovers can celebrate as it's National Oyster Day.

Oysters are popular worldwide and there's a lot to choose from.

More than 100 species of the shellfish exist, and they're often named after the body of water where they live.

Major oyster-producing regions in the U.S. include the Eastern Seaboard to the Southeast and West Coast.

Some people like to eat fresh oysters raw, but they can also be used in soups, stews and chowders.

Chowing down on oysters can be healthy as they're packed with Vitamins A and B12. They're are benefits for your brain, skin and heart.

In some cases, oysters contain a prize, roughly one out of every 10,000 produce a pearl.
