Thousands of Black Sabbath fans pay their respects to Ozzy Osbourne

BIRMINGHAM, England (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - The "Home of Metal" honored one of its most cherished sons: Ozzy Osbourne.

Thousands of fans lined the streets Wednesday as his hearse made its way through the streets of Birmingham, the English city where he grew up and where Black Sabbath was formed in 1968.

Flanked by her children, Osbourne's wife Sharon was visibly emotional as she laid the floral tribute at a bench and bridge named after the band.

Osbourne died 17 days after performing a farewell gig in Birmingham along with other heavy metal bands, including Metallica, Guns N' Roses and Aerosmith's Steven Tyler.
