U.S. Dept. of Transportation clears planned partnership between JetBlue and United Airlines

(NBC, KYMA/KECY) - JetBlue and United Airlines are ready for takeoff as the U.S. Department of Transportation has officially cleared the planned partnership between the two airlines.

The airlines announced their partnership in May called "Blue Sky."

The partnership will allow travelers to book flights on both carriers' websites while earning frequent flyer points.

JetBlue and United said Blue Sky will take flight this fall.
