Gwyneth Paltrow joins Astronomer as ‘temporary’ spokesperson
NEW YORK (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - The kiss cam moment at a Coldplay concert earlier this month has brought some unwanted attention to "Astronomer," the company where former CEO Andy Bryon and former Head of Human Resources Kristen Cabot worked.
And now, they decided to own the moment, with help from a celebrity with a unique connection to the story.
"I've been hired on a very temporary basis to speak on behalf of the 300+ employees at Astronomer," said Gwyneth Paltrow, an Oscar-winning actress and entrepreneur.
Paltrow has gotten in on the joke in the wake of the now viral kiss cam moment at a Coldplay concert in Boston.
Bryon and Cabot were caught in an intimate embrace on the big screen earlier this month, and both were married to other people.
Video of the moment quickly went viral, sparking interest in the previously obscure company, which has taken advantage of the moment.
"Astronomer has gotten a lot of questions over the last few days and they wanted me to answer the most common one," Paltrow said in a video produced by Ryan Reynolds' agency Maximum Effort.
The new video doesn't specifically mention the scandal, but Paltrow was married to Coldplay's lead singer Chris Martin for more than a decade before their "conscious uncoupling."
"By engaging Gwyneth to do this, it was an added level of okay, we get it. We recognize it. But hey, let's try to make the most of this visibility," said Matthew Hiltzik, founder of Hiltzik Strategies. "I think this is something that, by having her focus on the substance of the business. it's very tasteful in a and thread the needle really well."
The new ad has been viewed more than 36 million times.
Byron and Cabot have both resigned from astronomer and Paltrow says the company is back to focusing on its work.
"We will now be returning to what we do best: Deliver game-changing results for our customers," Paltrow expressed.
