Southern Maine experiences rain and hail showers

CUMBERLAND, Maine (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a widespread severe thunderstorm watch for parts of southern Maine Sunday, warning of frequent lightning, scattered wind gusts, and hail up to quarter-sized.

More than 12 million residents were under the severe thunderstorm watch, in effect across New England.

Footage from Northwoods Tick Control shows flooding and pea-sized hail affecting Cumberland, north of Portland, where an active hazardous weather outlook warned of potentially torrential rainfall, large hail, and damaging winds.

Storms were expected to last through the late afternoon, the NWS said.
