Researchers say more than 14 million children remain unvaccinated

(CNN, KYMA/KECY) - Children across the globe are not as medically-protected as they could be.

The World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children's Fund released its latest immunization report last week.

Researchers found roughly 14.3 million children have never received a vaccine shot.

Slightly more than half of those children were found in nine countries, including Ethiopia, Nigeria and Afghanistan.

The report also notes nearly six-million other children have only had some of the recommended vaccines, leaving them partially vulnerable to some illnesses.

A WHO doctor says a mix of factors is preventing more kids from getting proper vaccinations. Those include conflicts and war zones across the world and also vaccine misinformation.

In the U.S., the measles outbreak in West Texas continues to spread amid low vaccination rates in the region. The disease had been declared eliminated a quarter-century ago.
