Drone operator from Arkansas saves dog from coyote

MORRILTON, Ark. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - An Arkansas family nearly lost the beloved dog recently when it wandered away from home and was missing for four days.

Luckily, a drone operator joined the search and saved the dog in more ways than one, finding the pooch and scaring away an attacking coyote at the same time.

Jordan and Brooke Allen burdened by the thought of never seeing their dog again after it went missing Saturday, July 12.

"Just a loose board in the fence. He pushed his way right through," Jordan shared.

The Allens' dog, Whiskey, took off from their home to a wooded area in Morrilton.

"And somebody posted saying, 'Hey, maybe try to get a hold of somebody with a drone,'" Brooke detailed.

"They called me up and they sound pretty desperate," Laughlin added.

Laughlin has conducted similar searches before, so he got to work.

"It was kind of perplexing to me. I hear a dog out there, but I don't see it," Laughlin remarked.

After four hours of searching with his drone, Laughlin spotted Whiskey, but something else caught him by surprise.

"There was a coyote on it and I was like, 'No way.' my instinct was to get right on the coyote and let the air from the propellers hit that coyote," Laughlin spoke.

Thankfully, the drone chased the coyote away and Whiskey was saved.

"When they were able to see the dog, and was able to get him home, they were just delighted and that just makes me feel good inside," Laughlin expressed.

"Their was no way that we would've found him without that drone. He saved our family. He's a part of the family," the Allens added.

As for Whiskey, the Allens jokingly said he's grounded.
