Pilot killed in small plane crash in Pennsylvania

LANCASTER COUNTY, Penn. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - One person was killed when their small plane crashed in a field shortly after taking off from a Pennsylvania airport Sunday.

Authorities say the Piper PA-46 aircraft went down in Warwick Township, about half-a-mile from the Lancaster Airport, just before 8:000 a.m. Eastern.

"Our officers had responded initially, and they located the plane in the field," said Sgt. Adam Weber with the Northern Lancaster County Regional Police Department.

The pilot, a man, was the only person on board the plane and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

There were no injuries reported on the ground, and authorities say the FAA and the NTSB will investigate.
