CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Debris fly as tornado rips through southern Chile

PUERTO VARAS, Chile (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - A tornado ripped through Puerto Varas, a city in southern Chile's Lake District, Sunday, causing damage to homes and property.

The Chilean Meteorological Directorate confirmed an EF-1 tornado touched down in the area, according to a preliminary classification.

"Moderate damage. Roofs severely destroyed, cars and sheds overturned or severely damaged, exterior doors, windows, and other items lost, and glass broken," the agency said.

According to reports, at least 19 residents were injured and 5,000 customers were without power following the tornado.

Footage shared by X user @kyto_eva, otherwise known as Marco Antonio, shows the funnel ripping through the city, sending debris flying.

"Before the tornado started there was that typical noise in the sky, thunder where the winds collide, but I didn't imagine that the tornado would be created," the source wrote to X.
