Demolition of a bridge section in Illinois light up the night sky

PEORIA, Ill. (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - The demolition of a section of the McClugage Bridge lit up the night sky Monday in Peoria, Illinois.

Spectators were left waiting to see the spectacle, as a combination of windy weather and operational issues caused the planned time of the demolition to be moved from daylight hours to later in the evening, according to reports.

Slow-motion footage captured by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) shows the moment the section of the bridge was demolished.

"Talk about a blast - literally!" IDOT said.

The eastbound section of the McClugage Bridge was to be demolished to make way for a new bridge.
