More Americans are using “magic mushrooms”
(CNN, KYMA/KECY) - A new study has found that unsupervised use of "magic mushrooms" have increased all across the U.S.
The study's authors say the use of "magic mushrooms" have increased 188% from 2019 to 2023 among adults older than the age of 30. Its use increased 44% for people ages 18 to 29 years old during that same time period.
The study found that the use of "magic mushrooms" was higher than the estimates for cocaine, illicit opioid use, methamphetamine, or LSD.
In a few clinical trials, psychedelics have shown promise in treating depression, anxiety, substance use, and PTSD.
