Minnesota man arrested after standoff with police

CARLTON COUNTY, Minn. (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - A 45-year-old Sawyer man has been arrested and booked into the Carlton County Jail.

His charges include first degree assault, fourth degree assault, intentional discharge of a dangerous weapon, and felony possession of firearms/ammunition by a prohibited person.

Formal charges pending review by the Carlton County Attorney's Office.

A release was sent out by the Carlton County Sheriff's Office where at 4:05 p.m. Central, a call came in of a man who shot himself while cleaning his gun.

When Fond Du Lac Police Department arrived on the scene, a man was screaming out of the house window, eventually firing his gun; it's uncertain if the shots were directly at officers.

Officers set up a perimeter, calling surrounding law enforcement for aid.

No one was injured during this incident.

Neighboring residents were cleared to return home, and there is no further danger to the community.

The incident is under investigation.
