Two baby elephants seen for the first time at Kansas zoo
WICHITA, Kan. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - An overdose of cuteness at the Sedgwick County Zoo in Wichita, Kansas as two baby elephants, born this month, were let loose outside for the first time.
The pint sized pachyderms could be seen frolicking about with their mom and testing their strength on some tree limbs.
Kijani and Bomani were the result of a breeding program at the zoo and two more babies are expected later this year.
Scott Newland, President and CEO of Sedgwick County Zoo, says the elephants are little for only a very short time so people better hurry up and see them.
They are just so excited to come out and see these babies and to be part of this experience. This is not a typical thing that happens at a lot of zoos, and for us to not only have one successful birth, but then a second, and then potentially two more, it's just a huge thing for the citizens of Wichita, citizens of Cedric County, people in the state of Kansas. I hope everyone comes out and takes advantage of this opportunity. Obviously, these elephants will be with us for a long time, but they're only this little for a short amount of time, so we definitely want people to come out and experience them when they're kind of in their toddler mode here. So very excited that we have these elephants to share if somebody."
