Arkansas police officer rescues driver from Arkansas River
BARLING, Ark. (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - A police officer in Arkansas didn't hesitant to shed his duty gear and brave the fast-moving waters of the Arkansas River when a driver needed rescuing after their car entered the water.
The Sebastian County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) said Officer Cody Douglas of the Barling Police Department arrived at the scene after responding to a 911 call from an individual who said they had driven their car into the river.
After seeing the driver struggling to stay afloat, Douglas togged off and entered the river, the sheriff's office said. Other police officers then arrived at the scene along with fire department volunteers.
The driver was taken to the hospital for treatment. The vehicle remained submerged in the river, and was to be removed when it is located and when conditions allowed, SCSO said.
