Satellite images show devastation caused by Myanmar earthquake

(CBS, KYMA/KECY) - Satellite imagery released on Saturday reveals major destruction in Myanmar after a deadly 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck the south Asian country on Friday.

The first images here, provided by Maxar Technologies, show the collapsed Sagaing Bridge, a 16-span truss bridge connected the city of Sagaing to Mandalay across the Irrawaddy River.

Further images show that several significant Buddhist pagodas in Sagaing and across Mandalay had collapsed, along with a densely-packed area comprised of residential shacks and other small buildings.

The earthquake killed at least 1,600 people in Myanmar, according to reports citing figures provided by the military government

At least nine people were killed in Thailand, where the earthquake caused the collapse of an under-construction skyscraper, reports said.
