Judge grants freedom to man seen with missing U.S. student

(CNN, KYMA/KECY) - A judge is allowing the man, who investigators say was the last person to see a missing U.S. college student alive, to go home.

Joshua Riibe had asked the Dominican Republic court to grant him freedom, arguing authorities have inappropriately restricted his movements without charges.

The court hearing Tuesday came a day after Sudiksha Konanki's parents asked Dominican authorities to officially declare their daughter dead.

The 20-year-old went missing March 6 while on spring break in Punta Cana.

Her parents said investigators believe she drowned and that no evidence of foul play has been found.

Riibe, a 22-year-old Iowa resident and college student, has not been considered a suspect in Konanki's disappearance and has not been accused of wrongdoing.
