Small plane crashes into New Mexico home, investigation underway

SANTA FE COUNTY, N.M. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - A pilot is dead after a small plane crashed into a house and caught fire near Santa Fe Tuesday.

New Mexico State Police said the pilot reported an engine failure two minutes after taking off from Santa Fe Regional Airport at around 9:00am.

Almost immediately after the call came through, the plane crashed into the home. Responding officers found no one in the home at the time of the crash.

The pilot, whose identity has not been released yet, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fire crews contained the fire within about ten minutes and are still responding to hotspots in the area.

An investigation is underway.
