TSA breaks previous travel record for Fourth of July weekend

(NBC, KYMA/KECY) - People traveling by air this Fourth of July weekend have already set a new travel record.

According to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), more than 2,883,000 people went through checkpoints on Friday, beating the previous record in 2019 on the Sunday after Thanksgiving.

AAA has projected some 51 million people will travel 50 miles or more from home during this holiday weekend, which would set a record for the holiday.

More than four million people are expected to fly, which is an 11% increase over last year.
