Republican Senator Sasse resigns from Senate

WASHINGTON, D.C. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - Republican Senator Ben Sasse officially resigned from the senate on Sunday.

In detail, Sasse is leaving the Senate just two years into his second term.

This comes after the University of Florida Board of Trustees votes unanimously in November to appoint him President.

Sasse also made himself known for his outspoken criticism of former President Donald Trump.

He was one of seven Republican senators to vote to convict the former President of incitement of insurrection in his second impeachment trial. This stemmed from the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Nebraska's Republican Governor Jim Pillen will then appoint someone to fill Sasse's vacant seat.
