GRANR COUNTY, Wash. (NBC) - Recovery efforts are underway for a father and child who remain missing a canoeing accident in Washington this weekend.
Authorities rescued the second child, but a third died on scene.
Grant County officials said the man and his six, eight and ten year-old sons went fishing at Soda Lake on Friday. November 11, 2022.
This was when the canoe they rode in apparently flipped.
Officials said family members became worried when the group did not return after nightfall.
The family went searching and found one of the children, the ten-year-old, by the side of the river.
Police, and medical personnel took the child to the hospital and treated for hypothermia.
Just after midnight a day later, however, officials said they found the body of the eight-year-old child.
As of now, recovery efforts are ongoing for the father and six-year-old child.
Officials said that they are still unsure why the canoe tipped and whether or not the man and children were wearing life jackets.
