Ukrainian refugees using Calexico Port of Entry to cross into U.S.
CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY, T3) - Large groups of Ukrainians have been reported to have crossed into the United States by going through the Calexico Port of Entry on Wednesday, April 6.
Two refugees shared their story with Telemundo 3, who says the they left Ukraine two days ago with support from their friends.
The refugees traveled through Poland, Sweden, Colombia and Mexico before reaching Calexico.
“After we go to Mexico City and after to Tijuana and our friends help us to go to Mexicali, it’s was about 12 hours and after we were there, I pray to God, you know America it’s my dream," said David, one of the Ukrainian refugees.
President Joe Biden says the U.S. will take up to 100,000 refugees who are affected by Russia's attacks.
About 120 Ukrainians have reached Mexicali and at least 2,000 more are expected to arrive soon, while a majority of refugees are waiting in Tijuana to cross through San Diego.
