President Trump visits Norfolk for America’s Navy 250: Titans of the Sea event
NORFOLK, Va. (NBC, KYMA) - President Donald Trump was at a naval station in Norfolk, Virginia Sunday for a rally with Sailors, Veterans and their family members.
First Lady Melania Trump and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth joined the president for the Navy-themed event titled "America's Navy 250: Titans of the Sea."
Secretary Hegseth spoke before the first lady who announced President Trump, who then walked out to cheers and applause from the thousands of sailors in attendance.
During his remarks, Trump spoke on a number of different topics, including military strikes on alleged drug boats, deployment of the National Guard troops, and the government shutdown.
The president also shared how he was concerned he would miss the 250th celebration blaming the "rigged election."
"From the American Revolution until today, the story of the US name is a tale of loyalty, sacrifice and commitment, stretching back 250 years. So we're celebrating 250 I almost thought I wouldn't get to do that, because I was president in 2016 and then they rigged the election on me, and then we caught 'em, didn't we? We caught em, but, you know, we had to run it again. I played it again, and I got 250 and I got the World Cup, and I got the Olympics. Can you believe all of it?
But you know what's the most important? 250 years is the most important, above World Cup, above Olympic, but we got them all coming. And in June 14, next year, we're going to have a big UFC fight at the White House, right at the White House, on the grounds of the White House."
