Cargo truck drivers protest in Mexicali amid insecurity

MEXICALI, Mexico (KYMA) - Cargo truck drivers protested in Mexicali Monday over the insecurity and dangers they face on the highways.

Nearly 100 truck drivers drove through the city's Main Boulevards.

The protest was part of a nationwide movement involving 19 other cities. They said the greatest risks happen on highway in Sonora and along routes toward Tecate.

They also said some drivers in the border region have had their U.S. visas revoked.

"Our drivers are being killed and going missing; cargo is being stolen through extortion, and we are also facing tax-related issues. There are many problems, and we need action—we no longer want dialogue, because it doesn't lead to any solutions," said Ismael Reyes, a Mexicali transportation representative.

They said if they don't get a response today, they will consider further actions across Mexico.
