U.S. doctors to help perform more than 50 surgeries in Mexicali

MEXICALI, Mexico (KYMA) - Doctors from the U.S. will be in Mexicali to help perform more than 50 surgeries this weekend.

A total of 83 medical specialists are participating, with mostly surgeons, anesthesiologists and therapists performing reconstructive surgeries on children and young people with congenital anomalies and burn injuries.

They're a part of Interface, a medical organization that has been visiting different cities along the Mexican border since 1976.

"I pay my own expenses, but the only effort is to help better the lives. You know, the Bible says from those two to whom much has been given, much is expected," said Dr. Davis L. Bronson, reconstructive plastic surgeon.

The organization covers all expenses while the Mexicali Red Cross provides a medical unit where the surgeries are performed.
