Shelter in San Luis, Mexico opens doors to those seeking relief from extreme heat

KYMA

SAN LUIS, Mexico (KYMA) - The "Don Chon" shelter in San Luis, Mexico is opening its doors to people seeking relief from extreme heat.

The shelter, located near the border, will provide a cool and safe place for around 40 people looking to escape the heat.

Visitors can rest in the shade, drink water and electrolytes, and seek shelter when conditions become dangerous. The shelter also provides free breakfasts every day in the morning.

"Here in San Luis Río Colorado, temperatures are extremely high, whether in the hot season or the cold season, it rained yesterday, and today it will be very hot and stifling," said Ascencion Serna, the shelter's director. "That is why we are helping these people stay hydrated and, when necessary, find shelter for a few days."

Community members who would like to help can make donations, including food, water and clothing.

For more information on how to donate, you can visit the shelter, located three blocks away from the border.
