Unfinished Chinese monument in Mexicali causes outrage
MEXICALI, B.C. (KYMA, KECY/T3) - A Chinese monument is still unfinished in Mexicali, causing more outrage in the community.
Nearly a year-and-a-half after construction began, the monument stands without arms and even with a pocket collapsed from its trousers, which is now being repaired by workers.
According to the contract, the project should have been completed a year ago.
Several council members, like Manuel Rude, say to this day, the actual amount invested by the municipal and state governments in the project remains unknown.
"What I understand is that the artist who was going to make the monument has apparently already been paid, which is why this situation is already generating outrage. Even more so since residents don't know how much or who has donated money. Who pays for the cranes? The workers? Money for construction materials? There's a complete lack of information."
Manuel Rude, Mexicali Council member
The project's delivery date has been extended three times, without any fines being imposed on those responsible for the construction.
No word on when the monument will finally be completed.
