Fisherman murdered in broad daylight in Mexicali
MEXICALI, B.C. (KYMA, KECY/T3) - A fisherman was found murdered in Mexicali over the weekend.
Fishing Leader Sunshine Rodriguez was murdered in broad daylight while selling seafood last Saturday in the Independencia neighborhood.
The first investigations of the Prosecutor's Office indicate it was a direct attack. The Prosecutor's Office says three hooded subjects with tactical equipment participated and were traveling aboard a white sedan when the murder occurred at noon.
The fishing leader received more than 70 wounds on the body.
Rodriguez's son was with him, a young man who just turned 18-years-old last weekend.
Sunshine RodrÃguez was the main leader of the sector, as well as an activist who supported various social causes.
In 2020, he was arrested for organized crime and trafficking of marine species, however in 2023, he was exonerated of the crimes and released.
Candles and crosses were placed in the area he was murdered, and demands were made for justice from the authorities for this crime in broad daylight and next to a school.
