Children celebrate ‘Día del Niño’ at home
Día del Niño goes on as children are in quarantine
MEXICALI, Baja California. (KYMA, KECY) - As Mexico celebrates Dia del Niño, or Children's Day, children are experiencing this year's celebrations a bit differently.
The Nuñez children spend the day cuddled with their mother, who threw an early surprise party to celebrate the holiday.
Her daughter Nara says her hero is Susana Distancia, a play on words in Spanish, meaning “Your-Healthy Distance."
Nara says she dressed as Susana Distancia because she has been a key piece in preventing the spread of the virus in Mexico.
Diego, her brother, expressed his greatest wish is to end the virus so everything can return to normal.
Children's Day in Mexico brings with it an increase in economic activity to candy stores, who have also managed to find opportunity in this pandemic situation by selling newly-popular coronavirus piñatas.
Schools also joined today's festivities by offering free online games and challenges so children may stay connected and enjoy from their homes.
