Yuma County launches fraud notification service to protect residents
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Yuma County Recorder David Lara has announced the launch of Fraud Notify Alert, a free service designed to help residents stay informed about document recordings and protect against title fraud and other unauthorized filings.
The service allows users to monitor recorded documents linked to their names or business names. If a document is recorded that contains one of the entered names, the user will receive an email notification, allowing them to review the document and take action if necessary.
"This isn't a prevention, but it helps you monitor it and know what's happening before it gets too far down," said David Lara, Yuma County Recorder.
Fraud Notify Alert was created in response to growing fraud concerns, which initially affected larger cities but have since spread to smaller, rural communities like Yuma.
"Unfortunately, we have been getting some cases. At first, it was the large cities, now it's the smaller rural communities," Lara said. "So this is a way to help out the community. I suggest that everyone signs up...it doesn't cost anything, it's a free service, and it will go a long way."
The program aims to increase transparency and serve as an early warning system for fraudulent recordings, giving residents a chance to respond quickly.
Local resident Roy Cooper shared his concerns about rising scam attempts, stating, "I just got rid of my landline about two months ago, and I'm already getting calls all day. When I had my landline, it was at least 15 a day."
Residents can sign up for Fraud Notify Alert by visiting www.yumacountyaz.gov/government/recorder and clicking on the "Recorded Documents" tab.
