Locals gathering and preparing for nationwide “Hands-Off” protest

Yuma locals are gathering and preparing to take part in a nationwide "Hands-Off" protest against some current Presidential policies and certain government involvement.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - People in Yuma will be taking part in a "Hands-Off" protest nationwide against President Donald Trump's policies, including Elon Musk and D.O.G.E's involvement.

The protest will take place on the corners of 16th St. and Fourth Ave, near Sprouts and Del Sol Market.

The organizers of the event say they expect around 300 people to attend.

"We want to be bipartisan. We feel like this is an American issue [and] not a left or right issue, and so, if you feel like those freedoms are being infringed on, then we'd invite you to join us for a peaceful demonstration," said protest coordinator Sharon Block.

The protest starts this Saturday at 10 a.m., you can either show up or email the coordinators ahead of time to participate.

Marcus Block, another protestor who receives benefits from Social Security and is on Medicare, shares that he is afraid.

"It's very scary. You know, I wake in the morning thinking about it...I know it's on a lot of people's mind and just sitting around doing nothing, worrying about it doesn't do any good," said Block.

Sharon explains some of the other policies and actions they are protesting against.

"What's happening with healthcare, with the Veteran's benefits, with federal workers being fired, there's so many things, unfortunately. There's a number of messages that's the 'Hands-Off' idea," said Sharon.

They would also like to stress that this is a peaceful protest.

El Centro will also have a protest similar to this on Saturday at 10 a.m. by the United States Postal Service.
