City of Yuma named a 2025 Great American Defense Community
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The City of Yuma says they were named a 2025 Great American Defense Community (GADC) by the Association of Defense Communities (ADC) "in conjunction with USAA, the program's official sponsor."
In a press release, Yuma is one of three communities "nationwide selected for this year's honor, which recognizes exceptional support for military installations, and the people who serve."
"The Yuma community strongly supports the U.S. military, our service members, and our veterans. The [GADC] designation reflects Yuma's strong commitment and the true spirit of patriotism that exists here. We are proud to carry the GADC designation," said Doug Nicholls, Mayor of Yuma.
The City says they have "built a deep, enduring partnership with its military neighbors," thanks to Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Yuma and U.S. Army Yuma Proving Ground (YPG)," integrating "military considerations into development and infrastructure planning, aligning local growth with national defense priorities."
"We're excited to welcome Yuma, Arizona as a 2025 [GADC]. Yuma stands out as a leader in supporting military-connected students, offering innovative programs that inspire military communities across the nation," said Karen Holt, President of ADC.
