AWC professor in critical condition after a car hit him while riding his bike

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A professor at Arizona Western College (AWC) is fighting for his life after he was hit by a car while riding his bike.

David Burris teaches philosophy at AWC, and his family confirmed to KYMA he has suffered a traumatic brain injury and fractured ribs.

The family says he was riding his bike Friday morning when a car hit him from behind.

The Yuma County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) says this happened in the area of W. County 16th Street and S. Avenue 1/4 in Somerton.

Burris was taken to Onvida Health before being airlifted to a Phoenix-area hospital, where he still remains in criticial condition.
