2024 Summer Mural Program is underway at Joe Henry Optimist Center Park

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The 2024 Summer Mural Program is underway at the Joe Henry Optimist Center Park.

The Yuma Art Center has been hosting the program for over 20 years.

They employ and educate local high school students to paint the mural.

It's a collaboration between the Yuma Art Center, ARIZONA@WORK, and the City of Yuma Parks and Recreation.

This year, ARIZONA@WORK selected 8 students to participate in the program and come up with the design.

"I've always dreamed about making a mural in Yuma since I was a little kid. I always loved seeing the beautiful, colorful murals everywhere and I've been drawing since I was 6… Your dreams will come true like mine came true when I found this, so who knows what could be out there for you," says Sariah Garcia, a participant in the Summer Mual Program.

The mural will be completed in time for its ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 26th at 8 a.m.
