New monument greets travelers at Calexico Port of Entry
CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - State and regional officials came together at Nina Lee Road Thursday morning to join the California Department of Transportation to open the Clean California Calexico International Gateway project.
A new monument will now greet travelers when crossing into the United States.
This was all part of Governor Gavin Newsom’s multi-year $1.2 billion cleanup effort to create thousands of jobs, remove litter, and engage communities in beautification efforts across the state.
Calexico Mayor Raul Ureña said this is just the beginning.
State and regional officials along with the california department of transportation officially kicked off the "Clean California Calexico international gateway project".
The project is part of governor Gavin Newsom’s multi-year one-point-two billion dollar cleanup effort.
The governor says it will create thousands of jobs.
The mayor of Calexico says caltrans has committed to make Imperial Valley a clean county for those who live or just passing through.
