Holiday travel is expected to be in high numbers

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Whether you’re flying the friendly skies or hitting the roadways, be sure to pack a bit of patience when traveling this week, even when pumping gas.

Leo Delatorre, a holiday driver, mentioned the recent gas prices.

"It's a lot better than last year, it's a dollar cheaper than it was a year ago," stated Delatorre.

Fourth of July and the summer equate to more travel for Yuma, according to Gen Grosse at the Yuma International Airport.

“Over this holiday weekend, we anticipate that from Thursday to Wednesday of next week that they’ll be approximately 2,300 people who could arrive and depart here," said Gen Grosse.

American Airlines and United Airlines have increased their flights during the summer to serve Yuma travelers.

Sylvia Alvarez flew in from the Midwest and is excited to visit Yuma.

“That’s what I love the most, it’s the sunniest place in the world," expressed Alvarez.

29 arriving flights and 29 departing flights are expected now until next week as well as a peak in travelers.

"We would recommend having a little patience and a little bit of grace as they are working their way through the ticket counter, TSA, to their flights," explained Grosse.

Be careful on the roads this holiday weekend as well.

AAA predicts near-record highs of drivers hitting the road this holiday weekend

Americans are expected to spend 9.5 billion on Fourth of July celebrations this year, according to the National Retail Federation.
