YPD to conduct impaired driving detail on Fourth of July weekend

KYMA

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Yuma Police Department (YPD) will conduct an impaired driving enforcement detail for Independence Day weekend.

Starting from Saturday, July 1 to Tuesday, July 4, officers will be patrolling the streets of Yuma, looking to stop and arrest drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Not only that, this is done to raise public awareness about the dangers of impaired driving and to save lives on roadways.

YPD recommends following these five steps in order to have a safe Fourth of July weekend:

  • Plan a safe way home before going to parties.
  • Before drinking, designate a sober driver and leave your car keys at home.
  • If you're under the influence, call a cab, an Uber, a sober friend or a family member to get home safely.
  • If you see a driver under the influence, immediately dial 911.
  • If you see anyone who's about drive under the influence, take their keys and help them make other arrangements to get where they're going safely.

To learn more about the detail, read the press release below.
