Alternating lane closures and restrictions on I-8 in Yuma beginning June 19
The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan ahead due to upcoming closures
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - There will be alternating lane closures and restrictions on Interstate 8 in Yuma due to the ongoing project to upgrade the I-8 Colorado River Bridge.
The Arizona Department of Transportation announced the list of restrictions and closures:
- East- and westbound I-8 at the Arizona/California state line will be closed beginning at 9 p.m. Monday, June 19, and ending at 5 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, and then resume at 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, and end at 5 a.m. Wednesday, June 21.
- Eastbound detour: Motorists must exit at Winterhaven/4th Avenue. Drivers will turn right onto 4th Avenue and continue southbound toward 16th Street, then turn left onto 16th/US 95 and continue heading east toward the I-8 on-ramp.
- Westbound detour: Drivers must exit the freeway at 16th Street/US 95 and turn left on 16th Street/US 95 and continue toward 4th Avenue, then turn right onto 4th Avenue and continue north toward the I-8 westbound ramp.
- Westbound I-8 will be reduced to one lane 24 hours a day, seven days a week beginning at 5:01 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, and ending at 5 a.m. Tuesday, July 11.
- Eastbound I-8 will be reduced to one lane 24 hours a day, seven days a week starting at 5 a.m. Monday, June 19, through 5 a.m. Wednesday, June 21.
- A 16-foot vehicle width restriction will be in place.
- The speed limit will be reduced to 60 mph.
